Efficient Back Pain Treatment

Efficient Back Pain Treatment
There are many effective methods of back pain treatment. Some can be done at home, whereas the others involve medications or even surgery. How you treat your back pain will depend on other factors, such as whether it is acute or chronic, where it happens, the cause and severity of pain.

If the back pain is infrequent and not severe, then taking OTC medicines that contain ibuprofen or acetaminophen is an effective way to relieve pain. Both work and can be taken whenever necessary. The doctor can prescribe stronger medications if the pain is severe and these usually involve codeine which requires a prescription. Other drugs prescribed as back pain treatment include anti-inflammatory medications, COX-2 inhibitors and muscle relaxants.
Applying heat and cold also helps to relieve the discomfort and pain. Those that don’t want to take drugs immediately should try an ice pack or a heat source first to see if it helps. You can also try resting and not making any sudden moves until the pain resides. A massage that targets the back is also an alternative, non-drug method that has proven to be very helpful in treating back pain.
If all fails and the pain is chronic, due to nerve problems, sciatica or caused by herniated discs, then surgery is all that is left open when it comes to treating the back pain. This is usually a last resort and only helps in some cases. This is decided upon by a doctor and needs serious consideration before action is taken.
